The Steinbeck Center will be showcasing a collection of only Black and White (film) Silver Gelatin photographs from the Edward Weston Family Legacy. This will include photographs from Edward Weston, his son Brett Weston, grandson of Edward, Kim Weston and great grandson of Edward Weston, Zach Weston. Also included in the show are selected winning black and white (film) photographs from the Weston Scholarship Portfolio. Show runs March 10 - May 31, 2014. National Steinbeck Center

I am in the process of upgrading our website to a responsive site! A very simple, functional, yet visually pleasing theme. I have been researching this for weeks and I think I have found a few that may work. I really like this one, The Community Palette, a site about a cool new pop up artist showcase. What an interesting, thought provoking idea. Even though this is for new emerging artists, I think its a great idea for more established artists like us. We hope we can join in or bring something like this to our community as well. Let me know if you have any ideas or want to collaborate on something.
New Blog
A big part of the newly designed site will be an added blog. Lately Kim Weston has been participating on FaceBook. Check out his site and friend him if you are inclined to do so.
This new blog will be any easy way for us to share with you. It won't replace the newsletter completely but we hope to share more news about us and the Weston Family Legacy here. The leading authority on 4 Generations of Weston Photographic Excellence. We will be sharing photos, stories, videos etc. I can't wait. I am excited on the prospect of getting some of Kim's stories out there for you to read. And making them easy to find!

Greetings!The end of the year is very close and we are a few months behind in saying "Thank You" to so many people that we have met this year! Especially Kirmo Wilen and Hannele Fors for the workshop and exhibition in Finland! In September, Kim was invited by Hannele Fors to be the headliner at the 2013 Kuusamo Nature Photo Festival. Kirmo Wilen (a long time collector of Kim's work) brought his collection of "Weston's" to Kuusamo for the 70 print show. Kirmo showcased 12 Kim Weston "Print of the Month" Portfolio's, 2008 - 2012, that's 60 Kim Weston prints! 4 Cole Weston, 1 Brett Weston, 1 Tina Modotti and 4 Edward Weston. We were so happy to see all of the photos hung in the same gallery. Thank you, Kirmo for a wonderful visit and tour of your country! Stay tuned for my next video "Gina on the Spot - The Finland Connection".
Paris, FranceA special thanks to Kitty and Bruno Cohen, Trevor and Faye Yerbury for our workshop at Chateau St. Just just outside of Paris, France. In November we went on a workshop adventure to Paris, France! With Kitty Cohen's gracious hospitality we spent a lovely 12 days in Paris. We arranged it so we could teach on the weekend and then go to Paris Photo for the show. We were so lucky to get a VIP pass from The Hackelbury Gallery via Florence and Anthony Rodale. We spent hours at Paris Photo wandering from booth to booth with our friend Miguel-Soler-Roig from Spain. We met so many wonderful people, Lucien Clergue, Katherine Cooper, gallery owners and collectors. We even ran into old friends which was such a pleasant surprise. Duncan Miller Gallery brought "Nude in Cactus" to his booth at Foto Fever which was in the basement of the Louvre. Kim came home with some wonderful new images. Stay tuned....

On January 1, 2014, we will be retiring the 8x10 contact photographs from the 2001, 2002, 2003 POM Portfolios. The 4x5 contact platinum photographs from the POM Portfolios, 2004 and 2005. The 8x10 contact photographs from the 2006 POM Portfolio. The 5x7 contact photographs from the 2007 POM Portfolio. And the 8x10 contact photographs from the 2008 & 2009 POM Portfolios. The complete portfolio's (12 photographs) will still be available for a limited time. Larger sizes - 11x14 and 16x20 are still available for purchase by order. Why are we retiring them? We want to focus on Kim's newest work. Retiring these 8x10 contact prints will also increase the value of the ones that are already in your collections. The 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 POM Portfolios will also increase in price, along with all of Kim's photographs and will still be available in all sizes until their original edition runs out. Perfect timing to buy yourself or a loved one a Christmas gift!For the next couple of weeks all photographs are available for purchase on the website and from our private home gallery. Our website will be going through a major upgrade beginning the first of the year, January 2014. There will be some big changes so keep checking back to see what we have to offer! Kim felt he made some of his best images this year at the Nude in Landscape Workshop at the YL Boyer Ranch in June. He wants to go back. Maybe you can join him! The spring started off with some wonderful workshops at Wildcat Hill, including Wildcat Studio Nude, The Wildcat Studio Nude with Christa Meola and The Weston Figure Workshop with Mark Comon.
In June Kim went out to Wyoming with Mark and Winston Boyer to teach The Wyoming Nude and Landscape Workshop and he came home with exciting new work. He was so happy to finally get back to Wyoming to photograph. He is going back next year - so stay tuned for the 2014 workshop dates.

If you have been flowing FaceBook or the website you will know that we just got back from Chicago & Elkhart IN. Dr. Rick and Cindy Burns invited us out to Indiana to the Midwest Museum of American Art for The 3 Generation Weston Photography Exhibition. Check out the 3 news videos we made while we where there. First a weekend up in Kuusamo for the Kuusamo XVIII Nature Photo 2013 Finland where there will be a 3 Generation Show highlighting Edward Weston, Brett Weston, Cole Weston and Kim Weston. Greetings!
The winter months are quickly passing us by and spring will be upon us very soon. The waves along the coast have been amazing. I can't remember a year were we have had such great waves all winter long. We have had some rain and we have had some cold weather too!
Fireplace at Wildcat Hill
This wasn't the year to be turning our propane heater off in our main room. Brrrrrr. We must be crazy. Look at the handsome Brett Weston posing by our house after cutting down a pine tree. I am sure they burned as much wood as we have. Ok no one burns wood the way Kim does! Its nonstop. Well, as we sat in front of our little electric heater every morning we looked at each other and thought we are too old for this, we aren't getting any younger! So we gave in and are getting a wood insert for our house. Imagine no more cold days and evenings! It will be a trade off. We will miss the look of our old dear fireplace, we really love the look of it. But the trade off is HEAT!

Happenings at Wildcat Hill

We are having a wonderful winter. Guests have been coming to stay in Bodie House and Kim has been teaching One on One Workshops. Last week he was teaching Ocean-scapes and we had some amazing weather, off and on rain with lots of clouds with just the right texture for photography. Roman Loranc was visiting us from Mt. Shasta and they all went out photographing together. We are so grateful to be living close to the ocean, close to the earth. Kim is out shoveling manure into his garden right now. Its almost time to start planting our vege garden.
We have committed to quite a few workshops this year, we hope to meet and hang out with some of you! We have also been busy with the Weston Scholarship, this will be our 10th year giving away photography scholarships! Thank you to all that have given to us in the past. We have awarded 157 Scholarships and given away $54, 950! And some of you may know that Zach our son has come on board to help us out a bit. If you feel like you want to help you can Donate Now. We want to have a fun fundraiser this year! Any suggestions out there?

Greetings!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope this newsletter finds everyone enjoying the holiday season as much as we are. The tree is still up but the presents are all put away! We are still enjoying friends and meals and the cool rainy weather that we are having here at Wildcat Hill.
Kim and I want to take this time to thank everyone of you for such a wonderful and prosperous year. We have so much to be thankful for and of course all of you are on the top of our list! This year was filled with making new photographs, teaching one on one and group workshops, hanging with our family and friends, making new friends, cooking, traveling and fun!

June was super busy and filled with photographic opportunities. During the week before Kim's opening, we taught 2 Weston Figure Workshops with Mark Comon. A special thanks to our wonderful models Larva, Sara and Jazmine for working with us! And in between these classes we spent one day with models Jazmine and Sara photographing in Big Sur, scouting out a new location for a future workshop. Kim got some cool images from that shoot that are up in our gallery right now. After that we taught a One on One workshop, hosted a sit down dinner for 17 for The CPA and The Freestyle Boys (Kim cooked a leg of lamb!). The next day it was Kim's lecture at the Woman's Club and after that his opening. And of course another party after the opening! It was a busy week and we had a lot of fun!
July was similar with documenting Kim's show with Chuck Davis and Brad Cole. Thank you both so much for giving us your time. Rachael Short came by with some of her latest work and Kim made several digital negatives for her and printed some of her photos in Platinum. Now that was a fun day. She will be showing them soon in her Exposed Gallery in Carmel. (photos on FB). We went up for a few days to Mt. Shasta to visit Roman Loranc and swam in the cool waters of Castle Lake. The ideal temp of about 85 - 95 degrees. Its was nice to get out of the fog.
Thanks to all of you that have come to our workshops this year, our loyal POM subscribers, those that purchased Kim's Photographs and the Painted Photos from his show. We really appreciate your support by collecting Kim's work. thank you to all of you that have come to stay with us in Bodie House. Its been fun to have you here and a pleasure to get to know you all better.

We had the pleasure to spend a few hours with John Sexton and his wife Anne Larson at Point Lobos State Park last month. John and Kim have such a good time together, talking about their time spent with Kim's uncle Brett Weston. They both have so many fond memories of Brett. They both do an amazing repertoire of Brett, his movements and manners of speaking. It was fun!

In May we held our annual California Mission Photography Workshop at San Juan Bautista again. Randy Efros came from AZ brought several friends with him and we photographed from sun up to sun down!! Thanks again to Randy, Ruben Mendoza, Martin Vargas Garcia and all of our participating photographers. We are collecting our images for our book. They are due on July 1.

Remember you can always schedule a One on One Workshop with Kim here at Wildcat Hill. Learn how to photograph figure nudes, landscapes at Point Lobos, Black and White darkroom process, including developing negatives, printing, mounting and spotting. We can all use a lesson in that! right?

2012 Weston Scholarship Awards Ceremony
The Weston Scholarship founded by Gina & Kim Weston had their 8th annual Weston Scholarship and Award Ceremony at the Marjorie Evans Gallery on May 8, 2012. The show was phenomenal, we gave out $10,200 dollars. Photographer Roman Loranc came down from Mt. Shasta, he helped us judge the show, and out of the $10,200 we awarded, one of the awards was a $2000 scholarship that we gave in his name. Roman is a huge supporter of the Weston Scholarship! He has donated his photographs to be sold to help raise money for our fund. Visit our scholarship site for more information and to see all of the photos from the show and the award ceremony. Greetings!
Last weekend was our first Nude Photography Workshop of 2012. We had 9 participants, 3 models, 2 perfect weather days and a lot of fun working together to create some amazing photographs. Huntington Witherill, Roman Loranc and Brian Pawlowski were our guest artists for the night. Every bed on our property was full! Kim made wonderful breakfasts and lunchs for the guests that were staying with us (can't forget to mention he & Zach made dinner for everyone on Sat. night) and Tracy, Huntington's wife brought us Easter dinner after the workshop was over on Sunday. We had ham for days!

Life at Wildcat Hill
The winter rains have been infrequent but we have had so many amazing cloud days. I have been spending my off time, that is when I am not signing up people for workshops, showing people our home, posting images on FaceBook, making catalogs, updating my websites (www.westonscholarship.org), doing my taxes - ok now you get it I'm busy, at the beach! I love to go to the beach and take pictures. Morning and night. It changes everyday. Kim and I walk almost every morning, its our morning meditation where we just get to soak in all of the natural beauty around us. I used to check my email before my walks but decided that can wait until later! Several mornings a week I go to yoga and now I am doing a little weight training. Sitting in front of a computer for hours at a time is deadly!! So don't forget to get up and go when you have some extra play time.

Last month we met Xiao Lu from the Timeless Gallery in Beijing China. He and his friend Wan Wang came for a visit to see us and to buy some of Kim's fine art black and white photographs. Mr Lu invited us to come to China in 2013 for a 3 Generation Weston Show! How exciting. We also got invited to go to Finland too! Looks like 2013 will be another traveling year for us.

Last weekend was our first workshop of 2012 - "A Day with Kim Weston" Even though it rained all day (2") we had such a great time! Kim made homemade corn beef and cabbage to celebrate St. Patricks Day. Our friend Billy brought over a cake in the shape of a hat! It was so good. Huntington Witherill showed some beautiful work and his wife Tracy made desert as usual.

I will be sending out another newsletter on April 1st. I need to get back on track and somehow I am almost a month behind. Procrastination is not a good thing. Before I know it the month has already slipped by.
I had a photo shoot with Kim last week. I haven't modeled for him in years. We went to Carmel Beach and I stood on a rock looking out to the ocean. I just borrowed some beautiful flowing clothes from a dear friend of mine and I hope we will get the perfect weather to do it again. WOW what a trip!
Zach has been in the darkroom printing us out of house and home. Sure hope his summer job pans out. :)

Greetings!
The winter has been pretty mild here on the California Coast. The sunrises and sunsets have been spectacular this season! Can't remember a time that they been so beautiful for so many days in a row! Though we are longing for big winter storms and rain we are happy with what we have. We are gearing up for our 2012 Weston Photography Workshop Series, and we are excited about meeting all of the new people that are coming and looking forward to seeing the familiar faces that we have met over the years.
The Edward Weston Workshop: A Day with Kim Weston is scheduled for March 17, 2012. I know its on St. Patricks Day. Maybe instead of our delicious homemade spaghetti (our regular meal) we should be cooking Corned Beef and cabbage. Kim got a really good recipe from our friend John Wrobleski and its so good!

We are returning to San Juan Bautista this year! This fine art photography workshop gives you unparalleled access to one of the oldest missions in California. You will be guided by nationally known photographers Kim Weston, Randy Efros and archaeologist, writer and photographer Dr. Ruben Mendoza.
Take a step back in time while Ruben leads us and talks about the history and artifacts in the mission. Photograph along side Kim and Randy and be part of living history while we photograph and document the rich folklore of one of the oldest missions in California. Participate in creating a historical Fine Art Photography book to be presented to the mission upon completion.
Rise early in the morning to catch the first morning light and photograph into the evening while learning to paint with light.
