Portrait - by Dennis Wickes

I just wanted to take a minute to sincerely thank you and Kim for the remarkable weekend workshop.

Your hospitality and friendliness made for a very comfortable environment to work. It was a great mix of participants and your selection of models was excellent.

I appreciated, so much the opportunity to see Kim's, his uncle's and his grandfather's work. It was almost a spiritual experience for me. Very hard to put into words...it is more of a feeling that came over me...quite intense and quite profound.

Please tell Kim thanks for taking time to show such marvelous work.

I'll send you video and audio recordings ASAP.

This is my best shot from Sunday. Thanks again for everything.

Dear Gina and Kim,

Back in Madrid feels like a long time since we were with you in Carmel.
Have been quite busy in the last two weeks, also traveling to London and Barcelona.
We want to thank you for the wonderful experience during the workshop and the time we spend with you and the group.

Hope to get this week some information from PhotoEspaña regarding next year's program and see if we can organize a workshop with you in Spain.
I will let you know soon. Also will send you some images by next week.

Keep the Spanish tortilla and Gazpacho rolling.

All the best,

Miguel Soler-Roig

Dear Gina and Kim,

Thanks so much for your hospitality and for offering all of us such a unique photographic opportunity. Your home and its history are wonderful. What a fantastic opportunity for making images under all sorts of conditions in such close proximity. As time passes and I review my images, I understand even more how expert these models were, truly making all of us stretch past our previous limits.

I loved the whole experience: Carmel River Inn in such close proximity to you all and the fine restaurants and shops at The Crossroads and Barnyard, Point Lobos across the street, so to speak. Meeting Dick Garrod on Saturday was something again.

Kim, thanks for your focused and clearly explained education in approaching figure studies and photography in general, especially in terms of your artistic vision and process. Thanks also for making me realize that I have to take my photography more seriously, not only in presentation to others but also in a new creative direction of focusing on little projects or concepts to develop a meaningful portfolio. The gazpacho was something wonderful to boot.

Gina, thanks for being the director of our little madhouse and for keeping all of us inline and respectful of others during their presentations. The dinner Saturday night was delicious and so much fun, especially seeing the work of Rob and Roger (pardon me if I forgot his name). The pace of the workshop and time-layout of each day was perfect. I wouldn't want it any way otherwise.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, your workshop was the best ever. And I shall look forward to returning a number of times to learn and grow even more.

Yours,
Rick Midthun

Wildcat Studio Nude Class - Reed Duane

Dear Gina and Kim,

What an experience! The inspiration and instruction the workshop provided was only outdone by the hospitality you both extended.

Opening your home, lives, and passion for photography to the level you achieve made this one of the most memorable experiences in my life.

This was more than a learning experience about photography--it was a learning experience about giving!

I will be back.

With profound thanks,

Duane Reed Yakima, WA

2002 Al Weber Workshop

Kim Weston - Al Weber Workshop 2002
Kim Weston - Al Weber Workshop 2002

Several years ago Kim and I started going to Al Weber's photography workshops. I felt the need to get out of our studio environment and have a little adventure. Al has been leading workshops for 40 years! And I didn't want to miss the opportunity to spend some time with him.

Photographer David Vestal was co-teaching with Al. We went to Eureka Dunes off of Hwy 395, I remember it to be the longest dirt road I have ever been on.  It must have been at least 15 miles of the bumpiest washer board road. I thought our van was going to rattle apart. We met a wonderful group of photographers that we have gotten to know over the years. The last workshop we participated with Al was in 2009 at the San Miguel Mission.
