This beautiful silver gelatin photograph was taken in the Hotel Jules Cesar, a former 17th century Carmelite convent which is now a hotel of character which combines elements of the 18th century with contemporary art, without forgetting its past. The renovation of the hotel was spearheaded by renowned fashion designer Christian Lacroix. We were visiting Lucien Clergue and Katharine Cooper, Lucien's printer at the time. It is such a cool hotel. So many colors, textures and style! We had a wonderful time.
Next door to the Hotel Jules Cesar, we took in the exhibition at the Arlesienne Chapel of Charity. KATERINA JEBB, THE QUEEN OF ARLES AND HER BRIDESMAIDS, 2014 - L'ARLESIENNE, CHRISTIAN LACROIX, THE RENCONTRES D'ARLES 2014. L'Occitane en Provence sponsored an exhibition of photographs of Christian Lacroix's reconstitutions of early XXth Arlesian costumes based on family archives and photographed by Katerina Jebb. They feature the Reine d'Arles - a beauty queen elected for 3 years - together with her runner-ups portrayed in an antique style.
Here Kim is with his models Larva and Sara, in front of the beloved painter Balthus coat. What a treat to find it at this exhibition.
Thanks for keeping in touch. More to come.
